Monthly Chapter Meeting – August 2018

Event Date/Time

  • Monday, August 20, 2018
    6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

1945 NW Quimby
United States

We're excited to roll out our new monthly program format! Our intent is to have a meeting at the same date, time and location every month (except December) so members can plan ahead. We provide the food. You provide the beverages. And everyone provides the interaction and content.

As someone who has not attended chapter meetings for a few years, I was delighted by the two I recently attended. Our membership is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about good training design and the new format provides the structure for members to share that knowledge and enthusiasm. I came away from each of these Chapter meetings with new tools I can immediately apply on the job and valuable new contacts for my network. Thanks for your consideration in trying this new format, ATD Cascadia. I'd say it's a success!

Here's the general format:

  • Welcome
    • 15 minutes for people to get settled and get food and/or beverages
  • Networking
    • 15 minutes of a facilitated exercise related to the program theme
  • Presentations
    • 60 - 90 minutes of short presentations (5 - 15 minutes) related to a specific theme.
    • Some speakers will be chosen ahead of time.
    • Some speakers will be chosen from the participants.
    • Presentations are intended to be content-rich and provide nuggets of information.
    • Presentation modality will be chosen prior to the meeting. May include open space, World Cafe, speed PPT, etc. and all will be timed.
  • More Networking and Collegiality
    • This is an opportunity to learn and participate in emerging training methodologies.
    • It’s also an opportunity to learn and become exposed to new ideas (with less time investment!)
    • All this while still enjoying the collegial environment and networking opportunities you’ve come to expect from our events!

Theme for August 2018Training Activity Throw Down

  • Ever participate in a training activity and wonder, “why are we doing this?!”
  • Want to know if your short training activity can survive the scrutiny of your peers, but in a low-risk environment?
  • Thought the pirate icebreaker would be a sure fire winner?
  • Got frustrated because the speaker spoke a different language than you (even though it was on purpose)?
  • Thought throwing out SweeTarts® was a good idea with a healthcare group?

Come join the fun on August 20. Individuals will have the opportunity to present a short training activity (under 15 minutes) to see if attendees can guess the correct learning objective afterwards. Everyone will leave with new (and vetted!) training activities and memories of some good times with new and familiar colleagues.

If you are interested in being a part of the presentations, please email the ATD office at
